 From an RAF List...

Don't know about the RAF, but the RN were spared that, initially. The
Swiftsure Class Nuke Subs (late 60's) were supposed to be designed in
metric. But of course there were zillions of nuts & things in stores
to be used up, so the "Metric" drawings had 0.635cm instead of 1/2"*
etc etc. Some 'metric' measurements were ludicrous: 3.7549866 metres &
such!!!

But Jolly Jack Submariners could still use their BSF & BA spanners!!!
I rang up Switsure's build Skipper & asked if his charts were metric,
cos the dials & things had gone foreign.
"Christ, I don't know - better ask the Nav. I bl00dy hope so
otherwise we'll be surfacing in the middle of Hyde Park!!!"

*1/4", pillock!
