I like No 1 a lot. In No 3, both versions are wrong, though the pupil's has a certain merit.  The limit of 1/x-8 as x approaches 8 is not infinity, it is indeterminate, ie, such a number does not exist - division by zero is not allowed lest the rules of mathematics collapse.
