[BITList] Trent 900 Fan Blade Out (FBO) Test

A friend sent this video of a demo - with the comment below:



The Rolls Royce Trent turbofan in this video is 100,000 lbf thrust  
class jet engine use on big airplanes like the 777 and A380.  A three  
pound chicken did a number on it. The US Air jet that went in the  
Hudson got hit by a flock of 8-10 lb geese.  Puts in perspective just  
how good a job the flight crew did.

Attached is video of an engine on a test stand when a turbine blade is  
failed by firing a bird at the engine.  Usually a 3 lb. dead chicken.   
This test was successful in that the failure was contained, i.e.,  
engine parts did not go beyond the engine cowling.  It does not take  
long for the engine to digest itself.
