See....

Yesterdays local paper.

At lunch time today Helma and I went down to the river near where our
daughter lives and took some videos and photos.

Here's a couple of photos.

Normally, this is a weir called Aplin's Weir

Thats is the water is held behind it and a gentle trickle flows -
maybe - over the edge.

Looking upstream from the side of the walk bridge. Normally you just
see this concrete.

Looking across the river. The dark line running across is the edge of
the weir.

Looking downstream. Kids go fishing here off the bridge and side of
the bank. But not today. The noise of the water is very loud as well.

You can hear the noise long before you get to the side of the river.

Yesterday the water going over the Burdekin River dam was 6.38 meters
over the dam wall. The dam is half a kilometre across.

They say that it in one day, it is losing its total capacity out to
sea. The capacity is said to be 1.5 billion litres

The Burdekin River at Macrosson, between Townsville and Charters
Towers is 6.4 metres over the bridge.

If you have Google Earth.... go to.....

Aplin?s Weir

19?18'14.97"S, 19?18'14.97"S

Burdekin Dam

20?38'45.20"S, 147? 8'26.30"E

Macrosson Bridge

20?38'45.20"S, 146?26'14.61"E

The blue stuff at this site is stagnant water. The rest is just sand.
There is no flow in the river. When it is in flood the water will
cover the bridge and the banks or the river on either side of the
bridge. It is now over the bridge.
