      Fujiyama was sighted some time later (on the  PORT side as you 
suggest)
quite literally a breathtaking sight as it emerged from a "table- cloth" of 
 cloud.  

Further searching indicates MIYAKEJIMA could be what I  saw.
 (34 04' 43" N....139 31' 46 E)
 
  All this browsing is straining my sanity. I'll now go back up to the  
attic
and potter around with my model railway
