An Indian-style chutney, made and sold in England, is
named after the 56th Foot Essex Regiment. Why?

Because, ''The 56th Foot Essex Regiment were known
as "The Pompadours" due to the unique purple facings
on their uniforms. This colour was the favourite of
Madam Pompadour, a popular public figure of the time
and mistress to Louis XVI. This Indian style chutney
recalls "The Pompadours" many tours of duty in India.
Made by hand from the finest natural ingredients where
traditional methods are still preferred.''
