Hoax virus and scam messages come well down the scale of things that worry
me.  When I become Master of the Universe (and it can only be a matter of
time), I shall pave the way for my master stroke by a carefully regulated
series of ridiculous messages, every one of which will be rubbished by
Snopes. Then will come Snoopes.

Snoopes will be a Snopes-type thing I or one of my minions will have set up,
and its first revelation will be that Snopes is a hoax.

On the other hand, maybe I won't bother, but bear it in mind.

These things go back at least to the 60s lady with the beehive hairdo who
died when the bees burrowed into her brain. When I was a lad about 10 we all
believed Harry James had been jailed for using an illegal 4th valve on his
trumpet to get the virtuosity he displayed.  And the World Trade Towers
atrocity has spawned a whole industry of claim and counter-claim, so much so
that the truth, whatever it is, would never be be allowed to stand
unchallenged by one side or the other. Shades of the Master of the Universe.

The web and its hall of mirrors has a lot to answer for.
