Oops!  The QE2 wasn't called after the late Queen Mother, nor was she called after the previous Cunarder of the name, at least, not at the point where HM smashed the bottle and said the words.   She was really called after HM, but they got her number wrong and the high heid yins backtracked in a cloud of confusion, out of which emerged the face-saving notion that it was the previous Cunarder of the name This was emphasised by expunging the Roman numerals "II" and substituting "2".  What HM thought about it all was never revealed, at least, not to me.  All water under her bridge, but no less true at that.
