Hugh,
If your computer starts up again after a bit of a rest it could be that 
your bias battery needs to be changed the life of the battery is 
anywhere between 3 & 5 years as a rule when it runs down the symptoms 
are that the computer becomes erratic and finally stops altogether plus 
the clock often shows the wrong time its a very simple mater to change 
the battery
One can also network the two computers together using a cat5 crossover 
cable, though a switch would be easier that way both machines could be 
connected to the switch which in turn would be connected to the  
internet router output  a 4 way switch here costs about $30 plus the 3 
cat cables used to interconnect everything
