Sometimes cross-pollination has some benefits.

Subject: Re: [INDIA-BRITISH-RAJ] Lloyd's List: A new book reviewed.

John,

Thank you very much for that.
I look forward to Richard Woodman's later volumes, particularly if
they are
as well researched as N.A.M. Rodger's monumental 3 volume series on the
Naval History of Briton. Not just the military side - and the first two
volumes are already published , awaiting the final volume - they take
about
7 years each.

If too impatient for the final volume of Richard's series, you might
find
the small book on the final decline of the once great Merchant Navy
somewhat
depressing, but it does show what happened to those famous British
shipping
companys which are no longer heard of:
'Grey Dawn Breaking' by Tony Lane
Manchester University Press 1986
ISBN 0 7190 1876 5

For anyone interested in the nautical history of the Indian ocean,
another
excellent book is 'a history of the Indian Ocean and it's invaders'
entitled
'Empires of the Monsoon' by Richard Hall
Collins 1996
ISBN 0 00 21 5971 6

Free subscription to Lloyd's List is also well worth having. Today's
edition talks about anti-piracy sonic devices ...
What would Morgan have said?
