If they don't pay to British pensioners living in France they will
have the EU people chasing them up. Probably a case in the ECtHR,
which HMG will lose.

Hi David

HMG has already announced the indexation uprating of pensions to apply
from 1st April 2009. They are also bringing that increase forward by
3 months, to 1st January 2009 by paying each single British pensioner
£60.00 and every married British pensioner £120.00 between them.

I have not heard whether British pensioners living overseas will get
this one off payment but I assume that if pensioners are being
uprated, they may receive it. On the other hand, this idea is
designed to stimulate the British economy around Christmas time to
defer the effects of the recession.

Probably an example of how the British government treat its pensioners
– arbitrary discrimination.

Today's 'The Sun-Herald': 50,000 Australians living overseas in 21
countries with which we have reciprocal pension agreements will
receive their share of the $4.8 billion slug to stimulate the
Australian economy.

Ireland, Cyprus and Italy are cited as three of the 21. No mention of
the UK. Given the amount of Ozzie wine bought in the UK, a pensioner
bonus paid there might have had a marginal benefit for our economy.

Such is life.

David
