So the fire service just happened to be nearby and in need of some exercise.  Aye, right ! (the only double positive that means a negative)

A fine equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington, that well known inhabitant of the city, stands outside the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) not a stone's throw from where the engineers' annual lunch is currently held in Glasgow.  The Duke is almost never seen without a traffic cone on his head, and the police have a hard time of it ignoring the odd complaint from scandalised tourists. More than once dignitaries have refused to have their photos taken against the gallery frontage unless the cone, if missing at the time, is replaced.  So far elfin safety has not been invoked unless to explain why it should not be removed.
